Belgium edged out USA 2-1 in a thriller last night to enter the quarterfinals of the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. Belgium dominated the match and should have won it in normal time but there was one man who single-handedly kept USA in the game - goalkeeper Tim Howard. Reuters[/caption] The USA shot stopper made a staggering 16 saves, the most in a single match in the World Cup since 1966. His resistance was finally broken in extra time when Kevin de Bruyne scored in the 93rd minute and then Romelu Lukaku doubled the lead 12 minutes later. USA pulled one back through Julian Green but then missed a couple of chances which could have taken the game to penalties. It was a heart break for the USA fans and just like Guillermo Ochoa against Netherlands, Howard’s efforts went in vain.
