West Indies created history on Sunday when they became the first team to lift the ICC World T20 trophy twice in the history of the marquee tournament. The victory completed a dream treble — with the West Indians also winning the Women’s World T20 in addition to the U-19 World Cup bagged in February this year. The World T20 final witnessed Carlos Brathwaite hit four consecutive sixes off England all-rounder Ben Stokes in the final over of the match to help his side win the game in the most dramatic style. Solaris Images[/caption] The match was followed by emotionally-charged speeches from skipper Darren Sammy and Man of the Match, who hit back at their detractors aside from thanking their team-mates, coaching staff and fans back home for the win. Seemingly looking in tatters at 11 for three inside the third over, the Caribbean team recovered with a 75-run fourth wicket partnership between man of the match Marlon Samuels (85 not out; 66b, 9x4 and 2x6) and Dwayne Bravo (25). Samuels then teamed up with Brathwaite (34 not out, 10 balls, 1x4, 4x6) to author an unfinished 54-run partnership that saw the team to victory, less than two months after the West Indies boys won the under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, to make 2016 a memorable year in the annals of Caribbean cricket. Earlier in the day West Indies annexed their first Women’s World T20 crown with a convincing eight-wicket victory in the final over defending champions Australia at the Eden Gardens here on Sunday. Set an asking rate of 7.45 by the Aussies, who compiled a challenging 148/5 after electing to bat on a docile track, Stafanie Taylor and Hayley Mathews romped to victory with three balls to spare in a game mostly played in sultry conditions and before a sparse crowd.
