India’s N Sriram Balaji advanced to the second round of the men’s doubles event at Wimbledon on Thursday, joining compatriots Yuki Bhambri and Rithvik Bollipalli. World No 74 Balaji and his Mexican partner Miguel Reyes-Varela defeated Learner Tien and Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4 6-4 in their opening round meeting on Thursday, overpowering the American pair without much fuss.

Balaji and Reyes-Varela, however, face a stiff challenge in the second round of the men’s doubles event in the form of Spain’s Marcel Granollers and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos, a seasoned doubles pair.

How Bhambri and Bollipalli advanced to the second round

Bhambri and Bollipalli had won their respective Round 1 meetings on Wednesday. Bhambri and his American partner Robert Galloway defeated Manuel Guinard and Romain Arneodo 7-6 (10-8), 6-4. Bollipalli, on the other hand, defeated Belgium’s David Goffin and France’s Alexandre Muller together with his Colombian partner Nicolas Barrientos.

However, it was the end of the road for veteran Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna, who crashed out in the opening round of the men’s doubles event along with his Belgian partner Sander Gille after losing to the German pair of Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz 6-3, 6-4.
