The latest confirmation of Novak Djokovic uprooting his family from Serbia and settling in Greece came over the weekend as the star tennis player was spotted watching a David Cup match in Athens with his son Stefan. As reported earlier, Djokovic’s children, son Stefan, 10, and daughter Tara, eight, have started school at St. Lawrence College in Athens.

Djokovic reportedly moved his family from Serbia, including his children and wife Jelena, to Athens in Greece as he has been targeted by national media ever since throwing his weight behind the protests against president Aleksandar Vucic.

The protests against Vucic have been ongoing since November 2024, and mostly include the youth of the nation. However, Djokovic’s support for them on social media sparked outrage in the “regime-friendly” national media, who have questioned his commitment to the nation.

Over the weekend, Djokovic was seen watching the David Cup World Group tie between Greece and Brazil in Athens. He was accompanied by his son. And his appearance is seen as a confirmation that Athens is Djokovic’s new home.

Djokovic was spotted watching the fourth match of the tie between Stefano Tsitsipas and Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian Fonseca won the match 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 as Brazil clinched the tie 3-1.

After the match, the 19-year-old Fonseca spoke about the privilege of playing in front of Djokovic. “I had heard he was coming and I saw that he came at match time. It was an honour to play in front of him. I hope he liked it,” he said.

Tsitsipas hoped Djokovic could now be his neighbour in Athens and they could practice together. “I hope we can be neighbours and do some training together.”
