Novak Djokovic’s injury troubles have continued to worry tennis fans, and now his brother Djordje has given an update on the 24-time Grand Slam winner’s health. The Serbian star has faced multiple injuries in 2025, affecting his performance at some of the biggest tournaments of the year.
Djokovic was forced to retire last week during his third-place playoff against Taylor Fritz at the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Riyadh. After a long opening set that ended in a tiebreak, he stepped off the court. This came after his semifinal loss at the Shanghai Masters, where he struggled with physical problems due to the heat.
Djokovic’s brother provides health update
This led to his withdrawal from the Paris Masters and has also raised doubts about whether he will compete in the Hellenic Championship, a new ATP 250 event. In a press conference ahead of an upcoming event in Athens, Djordje Djokovic spoke about his brother’s condition.
“He withdrew from Paris, but he is working hard to recover. He has specific problems that worsened in Shanghai. He feels good now, he is doing everything in his power to be in the best possible condition and play in Athens. He has said how important it is for him to play in this competition, in front of the Greek fans,” Djordje said.
“He is a mastermind when it comes to preparation and recovery, and that is why he is the best,” he added. Djokovic suffered a torn hamstring at the Australian Open in January, which forced him to retire in the semifinals against Alexander Zverev. Later, during the Miami Open final in March, he had a swollen right eye.
At Wimbledon, Djokovic slipped on match point during his quarterfinal win over Flavio Cobolli, injuring his leg. This limited his movement in the semifinals, where he lost in straight sets to Jannik Sinner. He returned at the US Open after a short break but looked unfit, eventually losing in the semifinals to Carlos Alcaraz.
During the Shanghai Masters, Djokovic battled heat sickness and a left leg injury, which contributed to his shock loss. The exact issue that caused his retirement at the Six Kings Slam has not been revealed, but it may be related to the problems he faced in Shanghai.
