Djokovic retired from the semi-finals after losing the first set in a tiebreaker due to what appeared to be a left hamstring injury. It was later confirmed that he had a tear in his left thigh.

They were silenced immediately by Zverev, who reflected on the 24-time Grand Slam winner’s dedication to tennis in his on-court interview. “I know that everybody paid for tickets and everybody wants to see hopefully a great five-set match,” Zverev, who faces Jannik Sinner in the final , said. “But you’ve got to understand — Novak Djokovic is somebody that has given this sport, for the past 20 years, absolutely everything of his life.”

After retiring from the last four match, Djokovic had said: “I did everything I possibly can to basically manage the muscle tear that I had.

“Towards the end of that first set, I just started feeling more and more pain,” he said. “It was too much, I guess, to handle for me at the moment. Unfortunate ending, but I tried.”
