Novak Djokovic reacts with angry emoji as Aryna Sabalenka breaks his tie-breaker record: 'I'm upset right now'

Novak Djokovic on Sunday left a cheeky comment on a social media post that talked about Aryna Sabalenka breaking his record. The women’s world number one on Sunday reached the quarterfinals of the ongoing Australian Open with a straight-set victory over Canada’s Victoria Mboko.

As Sabalenka defeated her Canadian opponent 6-1, 7-6 (1), she also broke Djokovic’s record for most consecutive tiebreak wins in Grand Slams the Open era. Djokovic had 19 straight tiebreak wins which was the record till now. Sabalenka’s victory on Sunday helped her break the Serb’s record and reach 20 consecutive wins in tiebreaks.

Djokovic reacts with angry emoji

The X account of the French Open posted the news of Sabalenka going past Djokovic in the tie-breaks record. To this the 24-time Grand Slam champion cheekily responded by saying: “I’m upset right now”. He also added the angry face emoji in case anyone did not want to believe that Djokovic was truly upset.

With the win over 19-year-old Mboko, Sabalenka is set to face another teenager in the last eight. She will be up against the 18-year-old Iva Jovic, who overwhelmed Yulia Putintseva 6-0, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

Sabalenka is aiming to make her fourth straight appearance at the Australian Open where she won in 2023 and 2024 before falling at the final hurdle last year.

Djokovic gets a walkover

If Sabalenka had it easy in the Round of 16, Djokovic had it even easier. The Serb legend got a walkover into the Australian Open quarterfinals after his opponent Jakub Mensik withdrew 24 hours ahead of their scheduled fourth-round match due to an abdominal injury.

Djokovic has looked in good form so far at his most favoured Grand Slam where he has won a record 10 titles. He earned his 400th Grand Slam win during his third-round triumph over Botic van de Zandschulp. Another win also see Djokovic break Roger Federer’s record for most wins at Australian Open in tournament’s history.
