In the second round against Tien, Medvedev was penalized a point for showing aggression and frustration. After being broken to trail 4-3 in the second set, following a perfectly placed lob by Tien that landed on the baseline, Medvedev vented his frustration by throwing his racket toward the sideline. It skidded across the court and stopped near an advertising panel by his bench.

In other displays of anger, Medvedev slammed a ball into the back wall, knocked over a camera behind the baseline, and punched his racket bag. He also expressed displeasure after being called for two consecutive foot-faults during the second-set tiebreaker, which led to a double fault.

He also skipped the press conference after a match that ended at 3 AM.

The 5th seed Medvedev entered the tournament as one of the favourites, having been the runner-up in three of the past four years at the Australian Open, including in 2024.

Overall the tennis star has earned more than $45 million in prize money during his career.
