A dream come true for Fonseca

In what was his maiden tour-level final, Fonseca looked good under pressure, twice serving for the match unsuccessfully before regaining his rhythm to seal the win in front of a hostile crowd in Argentina. Overcoming four Argentine opponents en route to the title, the young Brazilian showcased a fearless brand of tennis to announce his arrival on the big stage.

Fonseca was overcome with emotion following his historic achievement, expressing his gratitude for the support he received from Brazilian fans even in Argentina.

“Unbelievable week, even in Argentina there are some Brazilians cheering for me. That’s just amazing. Every Brazilian, everyone from their country wants this support from their own people. For me, this moment that I’m living is just unbelievable,” Fonseca said after the match.

Fonseca also reflected on the journey that led him to this milestone, acknowledging the key role played by his family, friends, and sponsors.

“I want to thank my family, my friends, and my sponsors for just helping me achieve my dream, which is to play tennis. Of course, I want to be No. 1, of course, I want to win Slams and titles, but my dream is just to play tennis, and I’m living it,” he added.

With his one-hour, 45-minute victory, Fonseca etched his name in ATP Tour history as the 10th-youngest winner ever. The reigning Next Gen ATP Finals champion will see a significant rise in the rankings, climbing to a career-high No. 68 in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday.
