Defending champion Jannik Sinner is all set to take on Alexander Zverev in the men’s singles final of the 2025 Australian Open in Melbourne on Sunday. Both Sinner and Zverev have featured in two Grand Slam finals before, and while the current World No 1 has emerged victorious in both (winning 2024 Australian Open and 2024 US Open), Zverev is yet to win a Grand Slam title.
Zverev reached the final of the 2020 US Open and the 2024 French Open, losing to Dominic Thiem and Carlos Alcaraz respectively. Sinner, who defeated Holger Rune in the fourth round, went onto beat Alex de Minaur and Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively. Zverev, on the other hand, did not drop a set during the first three rounds in Melbourne.

He then dropped a set each against Ugo Humbert in the fourth round and Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals. The German then took on 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. Zverev took the first set 7-6 (7-5), but Djokovic withdrew from the match soon after due to an injury .
Djokovic had sustained a muscle tear on is left leg during his quarter-final win over Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday and had not trained on Wednesday and Thursday.
