Yuki Bhambri crashed out of men’s doubles in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open in Melbourne on Wednesday. Bhambri, who teamed up with France’s Albano Olivetti, lost to Australian pair of Tristan Schoolkate and Adam Walton 2-6, 6-7 (3-7) in a match that lasted one hour and 20 minutes. Bhambri and Olivetti received three break points during the match, but failed to convert any of those.

The due were prone to double faults, committing a total of five of those than compared to just one by the Australian pair.
Bhambri-Olivetti pair outplayed in first set, shows fightback in second set
Bhambri and Olivetti were almost completely outplayed in the first set. However, they were even more resilient in the second set as they were able to hold their serves for a majority of the games during the set. The Australian duo, however, executed their backhand winners to perfection as Yuki and Olivetti eventually lost the plot.
Yuki and Olivetti lost control of the match after they committed a forehand error to go down 2-4 at one stage, and despite showcasing some resilience even after that they could not avoid defeat.
Nagal, Bopanna crash out
On Sunday, Sumit Nagal had crashed out in the men’s singles first round after a 3-6, 1-6, 5-7 loss to Czechia’s Tomas Machac. Rohan Bopanna, who had won the men's doubles titles at the 2024 Australian Open with Australia’s Matthew Ebden, also bowed out in the first round. Bopanna, who teamed up with Colombia’s Nicolás Barrientos, went down to Spanish pair of Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-7 (5-7).
The Indians’ campaign at the 2025 Australian Open will continue on Thursday. N Sriraj Balaji will team up with Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela as they will take on Aleksandr Nedovyesov and Robin Haase in the men’s doubles first round on Thursday. In another men’s doubles first round match, Rithvik Bollipalli will team up with USA’s Ryan Seggerman as they face Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten on Thursday.
