British tennis star Emma Raducanu has opened up about the ‘genuine connection’ she shares with Carlos Alcaraz, who will be her mixed doubles partner at the upcoming US Open 2025. The Raducanu-Alcaraz pairing has sent social media into overdrive with fan accounts speculating about the tennis duo being engaged in a love relationship.
Reacting to the rumours and speculations, Raducanu said that she is happy the internet is having fun on their behalf. “I’m glad the internet is having fun,” she told BBC, “and we’re providing entertainment to everyone.”
Raducanu speaks on relationship with Alcaraz
The 22-year-old Raducanu also spoke about the relationship she shares with Alcaraz, who is a five-time Grand Slam champion and also won the French Open recently by beating world No.1 Jannik Sinner.
The former US Open winner Raducanu said that she “really value” the connection with Alcaraz, which has been there since a very young age.
“It is nice and I think, for all of us, we really value those connections that we had from when we were young,” Raducanu said. “Because when you become a bit more known or a bit more successful, you just find yourself reverting back to people you knew from a young age and because that’s a real genuine connection, because it becomes very busy and you have a lot more friends – but the ones that you’ve known for a long time mean a lot more to you.”
Talking about when she was first introduced to the 22-year-old Alcaraz, Raducanu revealed that it was at Wimbledon 2021.
“I remember he beat Stef [Tsitsipas] in the third round and it was like a big win, his breakout win on a big stage and it was really cool to kind of go through that tournament together. We have a good relationship still. He’s obviously overtaken me a lot, but it’s nice we have that from a while ago.”
