AFP[/caption] We have a collection of tweets by people who were unhappy with the star batsman receiving something that they felt only Australians should get. Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden had spoken against the decision, telling a radio show: “Now, if Sachin was living in Australia — give him the Prime Minister’s gong I reckon — but the reality of it is he’s living in India.” He also said: “I think it should be exclusive to Australians…I’m not so sure. There’s things that are sacred amongst our country.” However, fellow cricketer Adam Gilchrist had come out in support of Sachin receiving the Order of Australia membership— an honour which has also been conferred to Brian Lara. “The discussion around his award and the variety of opinion shows the amazing profile that Tendulkar has. Credit to Sachin to have the place he has held in both the countries. He has forged 22-years of relation between the two countries,” said the former wicket-keeper.
