The death of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes has shocked and saddened the cricket world. The 25-year-old died after being hit when a ball hit the back of his head during a Sheffield Shield match, on Tuesday. It was a reminder that sports can be dangerous even when many precautions are taken. Here’s a list of 10 sportsmen who lost their lives playing the game they loved. Cricket was in his family, he was born to Syed Abid Ali, and was the son-in-law of Syed Kirmani, both of whom have played cricket for India. He was given CPR after collapsing on the field but was declared dead 15 minutes later, leaving everyone in disbelief. On his way back to the dressing room, he collapsed near the boundary never to recover again, as reported by sportskeeda.com In 250 first-class matches he played, he had a record of 11434 runs and 558 wickets. His captain and wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud had positioned him there only for the last three deliveries of the day, so Lamba decided not to wear a helmet. It turned out to be a fatal decision. The ball hit his temple so hard that it is said to have bounced off him and gone to the wicketkeeper’s hands. He walked off the field claiming he was feeling fine, but later in the dressing room it was clear he had a brain haemorrhage. Folley was said to be in his prime form in the 80s. he was almost selected for the England tour to Pakistan in 1987, having taken 74 wickets that season. He is said to have suddenly collapsed in the middle in the field. The crowd and other players assumed that he was trying to stall the clock. He was taken to the dressing room, but his state deteriorated and was pronounced dead soon after. Di Jones, 27 August 1902 Di Jones cut his knee after falling on a piece of glass while playing in a pre-season football match. The simple injury got infected and a few days later he passed away in the hospital, as noted in Welsh Data Football Archive. The  Welsh footballer played as a full back for Chirk, Bolton Wanderers and Manchester City in the late 19th century.
