Bangladeshi writer and poet Taslima Nasrin has slammed people in her country for celebrating India’s defeat in the final of the recently concluded 50-over cricket World Cup. India lost to Australia by six wickets in the final after going unbeaten throughout the tournament, winning 10 matches on the trot. India’s defeat was greeted with joyous celebration by a large section of Bangladeshi cricket fans. “Bangladesh’s young Muslims are happy because India lost the World Cup. Why are they so much anti-India when India liberated their country and they depend on India for almost everything, healthcare, entertainment, clothing, beef, onion etc.? Govts encourage them to practice Islam, they do & so automatically become anti-Hindu,” Taslima Nasrin said in a post on social media platform X. Earlier this month, the poet from Bangladesh had denounced the crimes committed against Palestinians and Israelis during the Gaza conflict, but she also recommended that people direct their attention elsewhere. Bangladeshi artist Taslima Nasrin is a lifelong rebel who feels that her countrymen who are disturbed by crimes against Palestinians ought to be equally disturbed by the condition of minorities within their own nation.
