Syrian refugee who was tripped by Hungarian reporter set to coach at Spanish football academy

The Syrian refugee who was tripped by a journalist while running with his son in his arms from a refugee camp in Hungary has been roped in to coach in Getafe, a suburb of Madrid. It’s a remarkable turn of fortunes for Osama Abdul Mohsen, who made headlines when footage of him being tripped went viral – leading to Hungarian reporter Petra Laszlo getting fired for unacceptable behaviour by broadcasters N1. This sparked interest from CENAFE - a school which trains coaches - and eventually a move to Spain where he will live in Getafe and continue developing as a coach. Mohsen had worked for Syrian Premier League side al-Fotuwa SC but fled from the war-torn nation. CENAFE will also apply for asylum on behalf of Mohsen and plan to allow his 7-year-old son Zaid to play for one of the local clubs. “We will work with Getafe so Osama Abdul Mohsen can train, as he has experience with that, and that his son Zaid can play for the team, and who knows if in the future this can happen with another Spanish club?” Sara Hernandez, mayor of Getafe, was quoted in a Goal report. Spain has agreed to take 17,680 refugees from Syria and other countries under a plan set up by the European Commission.
