Syed Rahim Nabi, the Mohan Bagan Defender, could get a trial with Major League Soccer team DC United, according to the Times Of India. Quoting sources, the paper says Nabi could fly toWashington, where the MLS team is based, in early September. “DC United has seen my video clips and apparently that has evoked a lot of interest,” Nabi told the paper. “It has been a childhood dream to play abroad. I will give my best in the trials so that I can grab a contract.” [caption id=“attachment_970393” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Syed Rahim Nabi could be headed to the United States. DC United apparently wanted him for trials immediately, but the player has requested that his trial been postponed for personal reasons, the paper says. The opportunity for Nabi to play abroad comes as a result of the partnership between the All India Football Federation and IMG-Reliance, which owns the marketing and sponsorship rights for football in India. Nabi said his India teammates, Nirmal Chhetri and Gourmangi Singh, may also get trials. The Times of India reports that IMG-Reliance is talking to a few clubs about the possibility of options for some of the India players. The opportunity for Nabi to head to MLS is a result of the initiative. However, all is not well with the standoff between the clubs and IMG-Reliance. The clubs that make up the I-League are opposed to the IPL-style tournament proposed by IMG-Reliance and do not want to sign players who are contracted to the agency.
