Srinivasan likely to chair BCCI working committee meeting on 2 August

It seems that most Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) members have warmed up to N Srinivasan — paving the way for his return at the working committee meeting on 2 August. BCCI vice-president Niranjan Shah said on Monday that there was no reason why he shouldn’t come back: “He himself has stepped down and now as the probe is already finished, given to the working committee already, Srinivasan can come any time he wants to. He can chair the meeting,” Shah said. PTI[/caption] Srinivasan had stepped down temporarily from his post after the IPL spot-fixing scandal, but the BCCI probe has swiftly cleared Chennai Super Kings and India Cements of the charges which mean he could return sooner than expected. The probe has also reportedly cleared Raj Kundra, co-owner of Rajasthan Royals, of spot-fixing and match-fixing. However, it seems that the betting charges on Kundra and CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan remain. Jagmohan Dalmiya, who had taken over as interim chief of BCCI, told reporters: “It is up to him when he will assume the charge but I see there is no difference if it is from today or from 2 August.  Let him decide.” BCCI treasurer Ravi Savant was quoted in an Indian Express report as saying: “The report mentioned that no concrete evidence was found against CSK, Rajasthan Royals, Gurunath Meiyappan and Royals co-owner Raj Kundra as far as their involvement in fixing was concerned.” With almost unanimous support for Srinivasan, there’s nothing in sight that could stop him from a return to the helm of the BCCI.
