Day 4 Report: An effortless Kusal Mendis(60*) and a cautious Angelo Mathews(17*) were at the crease at the end of the day and will look to help Sri Lanka chase down the 388-run target set by Zimbabwe in the one-off Test at Colombo.

In the second innings, the hosts started off cautiously against Zimbabwe, who went in for an all-out spin attack with spinners bowling all the 48 overs bowled on Day 4. Zimbabwe captain Graeme Cremer led from the front to give the visitors a slight edge by striking at timely moments to claim the wickets of his Sri Lankan counterpart Dinesh Chandimal and opener Upul Tharanga.

Earlier, Sikandar Raza’s maiden century lifted Zimbabwe to a respectable 377 after the visitors were tottering at 59/5 on Day 3. Raza’s 144-run partnership with Malcolm Waller held the key to place Zimbabwe in a strong position.

Cremer also shone with the bat scoring 48 to extend the lead over the hosts before being caught behind off left-arm spinner Rangana Herath who finished the second innings with 6-133 to take his match tally to 11 wickets.

It was way back in 2006 when Sri Lanka achieved its highest-ever successful run chase by successfully reaching their 352-run target set by the Proteas in Colombo.

On Day 5, the Sri Lankan team under a new captain would like to cement its place in the record books while Zimbabwe would like to extend its golden run on Sri Lankan soil.
