Colombo: Statistical highlights on the fourth day of the second cricket Test between India and Sri Lanka here today. - India (325/8d) have registered their highest second innings total at P Sara Oval, surpassing the 268 in 2008. Their highest ever second innings total in Sri Lanka is 359 for four declared at Colombo, SSC in 1993. - Murali Vijay (82) has registered his highest score vs Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka – his second highest score vs Sri Lanka behind the 87 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in December 2009. Getty[/caption] - Vijay’s third fifty vs Sri Lanka is his 11th in Tests. - Ajinkya Rahane’s 126 is his fourth Test century – his first vs Sri Lanka. - Rahane has recorded all his four centuries in overseas Tests – 147 vs Australia at Melbourne, 118 vs New Zealand at Wellington and 103 vs England at Lord’s – all three last year and 126 vs Sri Lanka at P Sara Oval, Colombo. - Amongst the Indian players, only two had made more away hundreds before posting a hundred in India – 8 by Sunil Gavaskar and 5 by Rahul Dravid. - Rahane is averaging 49.37 in 16 Tests away from home – his tally being 1333 at a strike rate of 56.79, including four hundreds and seven fifties. - Rahane’s 126 is the highest individual score by India’s number three batsman against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, bettering the 125 by Vinod Kambli at Colombo, SSC in 1993. - Before Rahane’s feat, Rahul Dravid was last India’s number three batsman to post a century in Sri Lanka – 107 at Colombo, SSC in February 1999. - Kumar Sangakkara has managed 12,400 runs (ave.57.40) in his glittering Test career of 134 Tests, including 38 centuries and 52 fifties. - Sangakkara has finished his Test career with fifth highest aggregate in Test annals. Only four batsmen have managed more runs than him – Sachin Tendulkar (15921), Ricky Ponting (13378), Jacques Kallis (13289) and Rahul Dravid (13288). - Among the batsmen with 6,000 runs or more in Tests, his average is the fifth highest – the top four being Australia’s Don Bradman (99.94), England’s Ken Barrington (58.67) and Wally Hammiond (58.45) and Gary Sobers (57.78). - His tally of 6830 (ave.60.44) in 75 Tests is the second highest by any batsman in Sri Lanka. Mahela Jayawardene had managed 7167 (ave.59.72) in 81 Tests. - Among the seven batsmen with 6,000 runs or more at home, Sangakkara is the only one to have maintained an average of 60-plus. - Kumar Sangakkara has faced Ravichandran Ashwin in just four innings in the present Test series, getting out to him in all four innings. - Vijay and Rahane were associated in a partnership of 140 – India’s highest second-wicket stand in the second innings vs Sri Lanka. The said stand is India’s second highest for any wicket in the second innings vs Sri Lanka next only to the 171 for the first wicket between Manoj Prabhakar and Navjot Singh Sidhu at Colombo, SSC in 1993. - Angelo Matthews (2022 at an average of 72.21 in 20 Tests) has become the fourth Sri Lankan captain after Mahela Jayawardene (3665), Arjuna Ranatunga (3118) and Sanath Jayasuriya (2177) to manage 2,000 runs or more as captain. - Sri Lanka are without a partnership of 50 or more for the first wicket in 12 innings in succession. They managed just 255 runs in 12 innings at an average of 21.25. PTI
