Virat Kohli has become the most followed Indian sportsman on social networking site Twitter with a base of 4,870,190 followers.
Though, Kohli has overtaken Sachin Tendulkar as the most followed sportsperson on Twitter, the iconic cricketer still holds the number two spot a year after his retirement.
Tendulkar comes a close second with 4,869,849 fans, followed by Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the third spot with 3,327,033 followers.
“Here’s the 4 million follower selfie. Hope you like it :),” Kohli, currently in Australia for the four-match Test series, had written on his twitter handle after crossing the 4 lakh mark in October.
Nine of the top-ten most-followed sporting personalities in India were cricketers with tennis star Sania Mirza the only exception at number seven.
Others on the list were Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag (No.4) with 3,180,081 followers, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh (fifth) with 2,723,090 fans, followed by the likes of Suresh Raina, pacer Zaheer Khan, batsmen Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma.
