The Sachin Tendulkar fever has not died yet, and it seems some fans won’t even let it die ever after the cricketer retires. According to a Times of India report today, Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) has written a letter to the state education minister requesting him to include a chapter on Tendulkar in one of the state board textbooks. Chetan Pednekar from the MNVS said that Sachin Tendulkar is a legend in the field of cricket and children need to know about him. “Many famous Indians have been written about in our textbooks and Tendulkar too deserves this honour,” he told Times of India. Tendulkar’s friend and artist Sanatan Dinda has painted the retiring icon as mythological epic Mahabharat’s warrior prince Arjuna. The oil on canvas portrait of Tendulkar, who played his 199th and penultimate Test match at the Eden Gardens, resembles the character Arjuna. Tendulkar is painted in grey colour with a blue patch on his forehead signifying his dreams and ambitions to touch the sky. Yesterday, it was heartbreak for the whole of India when farewell man Sachin Tendulkar, expected to script a memorable innings in his swansong match on Eden Gardens , got out to a “controversial” decision on the second day of the India-West Indies Test. Tendulkar is set to play his last Test match in Mumbai at the Wankhede stadium next week. Now, if the Maharashtra education minister decides to take MNVS’ plea seriously, students sure won’t mind the decision. After all, it’s ‘The God of cricket’ they have to study about.
