The ISSF Shooting World Cup in Lima, Peru, witnessed some high-intense drama surrounding Indian shooter Rudrankksh Patil. The former 10m air rifle world champion was forced to withdraw from the final in Lima after his 11th shot was deleted.
Rudrankksh Patil, who hails from Thane, finished in 8th place in the men’s 10m air rifle event in which fellow Indian shooter Arjun Babuta came second. Babuta lost the gold medal by a margin of 0.1.
Rudrankksh Patil leaves shooting final after 11th shot is deleted
Patil hit a 10.4 on his 11th shot and climbed to the fourth spot. However, it was not counted as the jury ruled out that Patil had taken the shot before the chief range officer gave the go-ahead. As a result, Patil dropped to the last spot in the eight-man final after his 11th shot score was deleted.
The decision put Patil 8 points behind the shooter in 7th position, forcing him to withdraw as he decided against taking the 12th shot.
At the ISSF World Cup in Argentina, which kicked off the 2025 campaign, Patil had won gold in the men’s 10m air rifle and a silver in the mixed 10m air rifle shooting competition with Arya Borse.
Meanwhile, Babuta (252.3), who had finished fourth at the Paris Games last year, won silver in the men’s 10m air rifle event in Lima. He lost by just 0.1 points to reigning Olympic champion Sheng Lihao of China (252.4).
Hungarian Istvan Peni clinched the bronze with a score of 229.8.
In the women’s 10m air rifle event, Arya came fifth with a score of 188.1. She bowed out after the 18th shot of the 24-shot final. Her overall score was just 0.1 behind silver medal-winning Han Jiayu of China.
