Statistical highlights of the first day’s play of the fourth and final cricket Test between India and Australia in Sydney today. - Chris Rogers’ superb 95 is his highest score against India in Tests. - The aforesaid innings is his second highest at Sydney behind the 119 vs England in January 2014. - Rogers has registered five consecutive innings of fifty-plus - 55 & 55 at Brisbane; 57 & 69 at Melbourne and 95 at Sydney. He became the first Australian opener to record five fifties in a Test series without reaching a century. - Rogers has become the fourth Australian opener to record five successive innings of fifty-plus, joining Mark Taylor, Phil Jaques and David Warner. He has totalled 600 runs or more in a Test series for the first time - his aggregate being 663 (ave 165.75), including three hundreds and two fifties. - Smith’s aforesaid tally is the third highest by an Australian batsman in a Test series against India next only to Don Bradman - 715 (ave 178.75) in the 1947-48 rubber and Ricky Ponting 706 (ave 100.85) in 2003-04. - Smith’s third fifty vs India is his tenth in Tests. He has registered fifty-plus in seven successive matches - 84 & 36 not out vs South Africa at Cape Town, 22 & 55 vs Pakistan at Dubai, 0 & 97 at Abu Dhabi ;162 not out and 52 not out vs India at Adelaide, 133 & 28 at Brisbane, 192 & 14 at Melbourne and 82 not out at Sydney. - The Australian record for most fifty-plus innings in consecutive Tests is nine by Matthew Hayden (between 2001 and 2002) and Simon Katich (between 2009 and 2010) # Virat Kohli is appearing in his 33rd Test - the most by a player in the current Indian Test team. - David Warner has posted his 12th Test hundred - his fourth against India. He has registered four centuries each against India and South Africa, two vs England and one each vs New Zealand and Pakistan. - Warner’s tally of four centuries as an opener against India is exceeded only by Matthew Hayden’s six. His brilliant 101 off 114 balls is his first century at Sydney. - Warner is averaging 60-plus in the present rubber - his tally being 423 runs at an average of 60.42, including three centuries. He has posted three centuries in a series for the second time - the first occasion being in South Africa in 2013-14. - Rogers and Warner were involved in a partnership of 200 - Australia’s second double century partnership against India for the first wicket at Sydney. David Boon and Geoff Marsh were associated in a stand of 217 in 1986. - Overall, three double century partnerships have been recorded for the first wicket for Australia against India. Ed Cowan and David Warner had put on 214 at Perth in January 2012. - For Australia, for the first time in a Test innings vs India, the top four batsmen have registered fifty-plus. At Feroz Shah Kotla in the 2008-09 Test, Hayden (83), Katich (64), Ponting (87), Hussey (53) and Michael Clarke (112) had recordd fifty-plus in Australia’s first innings. - The above two instances are the only one when the top four batsmen had posted fifty or more in an innings for Australia against India. - Shane Watson has recorded his fifth fifty vs India - his 24th in Tests.
