The Supreme Court today dismissed Deccan Chargers’ plea against termination. The ruling means Deccan Chargers stand terminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL). BCCI can now go ahead with the auction. Earlier in the day, the cash-strapped Deccan Chargers had moved the Supreme Court against the team’s termination from the IPL. The Deccan Chargers have challenged the Bombay High Court order refusing to set aside a status quo order passed by an arbitrator on cessation of its membership in the league. AFP[/caption] The appeal against the High Court order was mentioned by senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi before a bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir, which said it would hear the matter later in the day. Meanwhile, it remains doubtful how many players of the IPL team would like to continue with the Chargers. With the BCCI setting 31st October as the deadline for renewal of player contracts, DC may find it hard to retain the team. The BCCI has also called for tenders to auction a new team which could be formed as soon as 25th October, and there could be a possibility that the current team will represent the newly formed one.
