The most prominent of these will be Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang’s qualification rounds as well as the men’s hockey team’s match against defending gold-medallist Germany. In shooting, which will kickstart the day, the 10m air rifle qualifications will see India’s only individual Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, along with Gagan Narang. Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Kynan Chenai will continue in the men’s trap qualifiers. They were at 17th and 19th spots after the first day and will face an uphill task to avoid elimination on the second day. In archery, Laxmirani Majhi will take on Slovakia’s Alexandra Longova in the round-of-32 eliminations. The country’s sole male and female swimmers — Shivani Kataria and Sajan Prakash — will be in action in the heats for 200m butterfly stroke. The men will play Germany, two-time reigning champions, in what will be their toughest test at Rio. If PR Sreejesh and Co can manage a draw, it will be considered a big boost, after their opening win against Ireland. The women will play Great Britain, a day after they managed to hold Japan to a draw in their opener. It will be another crunch game for Sushila Chanu and team, as they take on a much higher-ranked opponent. India’s only individual gold medallist Abhinav Bindra will be in action along with London 2012 bronze-medallist Gagan Narang, which means that Monday could finally be the day India opens its medal tally. Both Bindra and Narang know what it takes to be on the Olympic podium and both will be keen to repeat that. Bindra, who crashed to 16th position in London, will be playing his last Olympic event and has gone all out in preparation, even recreating the Rio range in Chandigarh. If he can channel all his nerve and preparation, he could script history with another medal. Similarly, if Narang gets going, he has the potential to change the colour of his medal as well. The 10m air rifle event will be one to watch out for. Follow all the Live updates from the Day’s happenings here
