PTI[/caption] Salman Khan was named goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in April, but this decision created a lot of controversy. Since then, the actor has attempted to show his support for the Indian athletes but he was unable to recall the name of India’s star gymnast, Dipa Karmakar, The “Dabangg” star also shared that the Indian government is very supportive of sports. He said that he admires the work the Olympic Gold Quest is doing to “shape tomorrow’s champions”. “For me each and every sportsperson in the Indian Olympic contingent is a superstar. They prepare for four years and have a few minutes, sometimes a few seconds to perform on the world’s biggest stage,” Salman had said earlier in a statement. The 50-year-old superstar was last seen on screen in “Sultan”, produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner Yash Raj Films. Earlier this month, YRF had also announced that it will honour Indian athletes who win gold at Rio with Rs one million. Here are his tweets from earlier in the day:

As a gesture of appreciation for our Olympic athletes, I will present each one with a cheque of Rs1,01,000.
