A bitter Franck Ribery called Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or win ‘political’ and claimed that he deserved the award more than the Real Madrid star. Ribery told Munich’s TZ newspaper and was quoted in several reports including this one in The Guardian as saying: “I won everything, with the team and individually. Ronaldo won nothing. The Frenchman came in third after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the voting — which was extended by two weeks and allowed voters to consider Ronaldo’s brilliant performances against Sweden in the World Cup qualifiers which sent Portugal to Brazil. In a stunning season, Ribery won five trophies with Bayern Munich and was quoted before as saying that even that is not enough to win the award. Bayern won the Bundesliga, German Cup, Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup in 2013, while Ronaldo’s tally of 66 goals in 56 appearances for Madrid failed to win them a single trophy.
