Rahul Dravid to miss U-19 team's tour due to commitments with India A side, claims report

Rahul Dravid ended all debates on a possible conflict of interest when he quit as Delhi Daredevils' head coach to solely pursue the responsibility of coaching the India A and U-19 teams.

However, less than a week after the development, Dravid has had to make another hard choice and choose between the two teams under his tutelage.

According to a report in the Times of IndiaDravid will miss the U-19 team's tour to England, as he is set to travel with the 'A' team to South Africa where the team are slated to play two four-day matches and a one-day tri-series.

Dravid will however supervise the pre-tour camp for the U-19 team that will begin in Bengaluru from Tuesday. A senior BCCI official told the newspaper that the board will appoint a temporary coach for the U-19 team for their England tour.

In addition to Dravid's absence, there is a lack of clarity on the support staff for the U-19 and A teams with assistant coaches Paras Mhambrey (bowling) and Abhay Sharma (fielding) yet to sign contracts with the board due to their own conflict of interest issues. Mhambrey will have to resign from his jobs with IPL champions Mumbai Indians and Vidarbha in order to continue as coach of the junior teams.

Dravid was first appointed as coach of the Indian U-19 and A teams in June 2015 and under his leadership, the youngsters have achieved outstanding results, both home and away.

In Dravid's first assignment as coach, the 'A' side won the triangular series in Australia, which had South Africa as the third team. He repeated that success with the Under-19 team, guiding them to the final of the World Cup in 2016.

So despite having to juggle between two roles, the former Indian batsman has managed to maintain a good track record with both teams and BCCI will be hoping it continues with both the U-19 and A sides facing crucial away tours.

Moreover it will also be interesting to see who the board appoints to take temporary charge of the U-19 team and if the new coach is able to maintain the level of the team's performance in Dravid's absence.
