Legendary pro-wrestler Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart has been punched, kicked, body-slammed, hit with chairs, fallen from ladders and even been sat on by a nearly 600-pound beast of a man. But on Monday, he told the world, in an emotionally-worded Instagram post, that he was in his biggest fight yet: The battle with prostate cancer. “It is with great remorse that I feel compelled to speak truthfully to my friends, family and my millions of fans around the world,” wrote the 58-year-old retired grappler, adding with trademark self-deprecation, “I’ve paid a price for all that ‘fake’ wrestling." According to National Cancer Institute, this form of cancer is ’the most common’ type among American men, after skin cancer, and ’the second leading cause of death from cancer in men’. However, for the Canadian Bret Hart, this isn’t the first life-threatening situation he has faced: “I beat the odds when I suffered my stroke in 2002, but it is now yet again, that I … stand unafraid and face the tough road ahead of me,” wrote Bret in his post. In a radio interview on Tuesday, Bret outlined his resolve by saying. “Hopefully in the near future I can prove to people that I will overcome this battle and be on the better side of it in six months or so. Hopefully, people will gain strength from that and use me as somebody they can look up to if someone in their family or themselves goes through it.” We expected no less from ’the best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be’! Here’s his Instagram post:Encouragement and support for the Hitman has been pouring in on social media from fans, well-wishers and a large chunk of the pro-wrestling community. Here’s a sample:
