After raiding Southampton in the previous season to fill the crater left by Luis Suarez, Liverpool have again turned to the Saints to replenish their squad after a disappointing season. However, Southampton seemed to have closed shop. According to reports in the British media, the Saints have rejected a £10 million transfer offer from the Reds for right-back Nathaniel Clyne. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers experimented extensively with the team formation, employing German midfielder Emre Can at the right-back position at times. Regular right-back option 30-year-old Glen Johnson is out of contract this summer. However, according to a
BBC Sport report, Liverpool are expected to make an improved bid for the 24-year-old English right back. Clyne enjoyed an eye-catching season with Southampton under Dutch Manager Ronald Koeman. The Saints gave away 33 goals, behind only league winners Chelsea — who gave away 32. Liverpool will face tough competition to sign Clyne as Manchester United are also
reportedly in pursuit. Earlier Clyne had
expressed that he was happy at Southampton and was “waiting on a deal”. Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of 22-year-old centre-back Kevin Wimmer from FC Koln. The Austrian defender has accepted a five year deal at the North London club, the
Spurs website confirmed. “Kevin has gone on to become a regular in the FC Koln defence, as they earned promotion to the German top-flight in 2014, and was a standout performer in their first season back in the Bundesliga this year. He made 72 appearances in total during his time in Germany, scoring twice and has also been capped at international level by Austria,” the statement said. Away from England, and Juventus have inched closer on a double scoop for German midfield wrecker Sami Khedira from Real Madrid and 21-year-old Palermo striker Paulo Dybala,
reported ESPN FC. Both players have passed their medicals and are well on course to join the Bianconeri. Both the players have been heavily sought after by English clubs and signing them would help Juventus to stamp a superiority in Europe.
