The inaugural Premier Futsal league in India received a massive boost as Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, ex-Barcelona midfielder Ronaldinho and former AC Milan striker Hernan Crespo signed up for the event. Perhaps the biggest coup that Premier Futsal could make after the signing of Paul Scholes, was to acquire his ‘Class of 92’ teammate Ryan Giggs. The former Manchester United assistant manager had recently relinquished the job that he held under Dutch manager Louis van Gaal. A lower position was offered to him under new manager Jose Mourinho but he declined that vacancy. Premier Futsal put up the following tweet to announce the arrival of this amazing trio.

Premier Futsal now has six marquee players for its different teams. Giggs will be Mumbai 5’s marquee player while Paul Scholes will take the helm for Bengaluru 5’s. Futsal legend Falcao will be heading the Chennai team and Hernan Crespo will be the marquee signing for Kolkata 5’s. Kochi will be represented by formal Real Madrid legend Michel Salgado while his Barcelona rival Ronaldinho will be take over Goa 5’s. The Premier Futsal has met with opposition from All India Football Federation (AIFF), who also plan to start a Futsal league of their own. But as Futsal doesn’t come under the jurisdiction of FIFA, the league in India is deemed perfectly legal and has all the required permissions. The AIFF had said earlier that the unsanctioned Premier Futsal, scheduled to begin on 15 July, will create unnecessary issues and also expressed serious doubts about the survival of the tournament. The AIFF had asked its state units to advise the players under their jurisdiction not to associate with Premier Futsal. General Secretary Kushal Das had even said that no domestic footballer will take part in the unsanctioned league.
