Rio Olympics 2016: Indian athletes have a forgettable day, but a few silver linings
Except a few athletes, most Indians had a disappointing day at the Rio Olympics on Saturday, suffering heartbreaking defeats and exiting the tournament

Armyman and shooter Gurpreet Singh failed to make the cut after finishing 20th in men's 10metre air pistol. PTI

Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna, who have made no secret of their dislike for each other, crashed out of the Olympics after losing their first round match to Polish duo Lukasz Kubot and Marcin Matkowski. AP

There was to be no better luck in women's table tennis either, as Mouma Das and Manika Batra (above) both lost in women's singles clashes to Daniela Dodean Monteiro and Katarzyna Grzybowska-Franc respectively. Reuters
Chanu Mirabai, among the last athletes to participate on day one, made it a day to forget for India, failing to lift in clean and jerk, bowing out of the women's 48kg weightlifting competition. AP
Jitu Rai, expected to be among India's genuine medal hopefuls at Rio, also put up a below-par showing, shooting way off target and finishing only eighth in men's 10metre air rifle category. Getty Images
