Parveen Kumar finishes 8th out of 11 competitors in the men’s javelin throw F57 final with a best effort of 42.12m in his fourth attempt.

Uzbekistan’s Yorkinbek Odilov takes home the gold medal with a throw of 50.32m in his third attempt — the only one to cross the half-century mark in the event.

Turkiye’s Muhammet Khalvandi (49.97m) and Brazil’s Cicero Valdiran Lins Nobre (49.46m) win silver and bronze respectively.

Parveen’s next two attempts measure 41.23m, 42.12m and 40.35m, with the Indian currently at the eighth spot.

Can the Indian conjure up some magic in his sixth and final attempt and finish among the top three?

Praveen’s first attempts measures 40.21m. That is followed by a slight improvement in his second throw, measuring 41.91m.

He’ll have to do a lot better though if he is to move into the medal positions.

Diouf moves to the fifth spot with a best throw of 47.39m in his second attempt.

Krishna Nagar retires hurt in his SH6 Group B encounter against Natthapong Meechai, resulting in his Thai opponent getting all the points.

Meechai had the upper hand in any case after pulling off a tense 22-20 victory in Game 1 and opening up a big lead at 11-3 in the second game.

Indonesia’s Fauzi Purwolaksono is second with a best attempt of 45.66 while Cape Verde’s Marilson Fernandes Semedo is third with 39.97m.

Parveen is the 11th athlete in the list so it’s going to be a while before he is in action.

World No 1 Sheetal Devi suffers a heartbreak in the fifth and final End, in Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Zuniga finishes ahead by a solitary point to win the contest 138-137 and advance to the quarter-finals.

Sheetal was leading 29-28 after the first end, and the two would finish level on 55, 82 and 111 points in the next three Ends.

Sheetal, however, hits a couple of 8s in the fifth End along with an X, which is eclipsed by a 9, 10 and 8 by the Chilean.

A place on the Paralympic podium was not to be for Sheetal this year, but at 17 years of age, she still has several more Paralympic appearances ahead of her.

Sheetal and Mariana are going neck-and-neck at the moment, the two currently tied on a score of 55 after two ends.

Sheetal is off to a superb start with back-to-back Xs — which is an inside 10 — and takes End 1 29-28. The Chilean, however, fights back to take the next one 27-26.

Sarita is through to the quarter-finals with a 141-135 victory over Italy’s Sarti.

Onto archery now, where Sarita Devi is up against Italy’s Eleonora Sarti in the Women’s Compound Open Round of 16.

She leads 29-25 after the first end.

Iran’s Sareh Javanmardi wins gold in the women’s 10m air pistol final with a score of 236.8 after 24 shots, with Turkiye’s Aysel Ozgan collecting silver after finishing with 231.1. India’s Rubina Francis, who found herself at the second spot on a couple of occasions in the final, wins bronze.

Rubina Francis bows out with a bronze medal around her neck, winning the first medal of the day for the Indian contingent as well as India’s fourth in shooting and fifth overall!

She signs off with a final score of 211.1 after 22 shots!

Excellent shots by Rubina in the next two rounds, and she now moves to the second spot past Turkiye’s Ozgan!

She takes her total to 193 with shots measuring 9.2 and 10.1 and 9.5 and 9.8!

It’s two shots per round going forward and Rubina manageas to stay in the medal positions with shots of 8.9 and 9.3, 8.7 and 9.8 and 9.7 and 10.4, her total currently reading 154.4.

Can he keep herself among the top three.

Poor start for Rubina in the second series as she shoots 8.4. That is followed by 10, 9.8, 9.6 and 9.8.

She slips to the third spot, with Turkiye’s Aysel Ozgan moving to the top after firing 50.3 in the second round of attempts for a total score of 99.5.

Rubina Francis starts off with a combined score of 50.0 — 10.7, 10.3, 10.3, 9.7, 9.0.

This puts her in the second position, behind Iran’s Sareh Javanmardi, who is marginally ahead at 50.1

Right then, the women’s 10m air pistol final has begun! Can Rubina Francis win India’s fourth shooting medal in the ongoing Paralympics and their fifth overall?
