India at Paris Paralympics, Day 3 LIVE: Signing off

That brings us to the end of our coverage of Day 3 of the Paris Paralympics, with India winning one medal today — Rubina Francis’ bronze in women’s 10m air pistol SH1 — compared to the four they had won yesterday, taking their overall tally to five that has them sitting at the 22nd spot on the table.

China continue to surge ahead on the overall medal count, taking their tally past 40 now with Great Britain and Brazil sitting at the second and third spots. As we call it a day, we leave you with a screengrab of the latest standings:

Parveen Kumar finishes 8th out of 11 competitors in the men’s javelin throw F57 final with a best effort of 42.12m in his fourth attempt.

Uzbekistan’s Yorkinbek Odilov takes home the gold medal with a throw of 50.32m in his third attempt — the only one to cross the half-century mark in the event.

Turkiye’s Muhammet Khalvandi (49.97m) and Brazil’s Cicero Valdiran Lins Nobre (49.46m) win silver and bronze respectively.

World No 1 Sheetal Devi suffers a heartbreak in the fifth and final End, in Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Zuniga finishes ahead by a solitary point to win the contest 138-137 and advance to the quarter-finals.

Sheetal was leading 29-28 after the first end, and the two would finish level on 55, 82 and 111 points in the next three Ends.

Sheetal, however, hits a couple of 8s in the fifth End along with an X, which is eclipsed by a 9, 10 and 8 by the Chilean.

Paris Paralympics LIVE: India had a productive second day at the 2024 Paris Paralympics with four medals adding to the tally. Avani Lekhara defended her gold from Tokyo 2020 in the 10m rifle title with Mona Agarwal clinching bronze. Manish Narwal won silver in 10m pistol while Preeti Pal created history in sprint.

Away from the medals, in para-badminton, Suhas Yathiraj (SL4) and Thulasimathi Murugesan (SU5) lived up to their top seed billings by qualifying for the knockouts. In para-archery, Rakesh Kumar survived heavy rain to reach the Round of 16 in men’s compound individual event. Sarita, too, won her Round of 32 match.

On Saturday, Rubina Francis will start her campaign in 10m Air Pistol SH1 Qualification.

All eyes, though, will be on Sheetal Devi, who will lock horns with Chile’s Mariana Zuniga in Archery’s Compound Open 1/8 Elimination round which could produce a medal later in the day.

In singles Badminton SH6 match, Krishna Nagar will take on Thailand’s Natthapong Meechai.
