Paralympics 2024 India Highlights, Day 8: Kapil Parmar wins bronze in judo, Harvinder-Pooja narrowly miss out on archery medal

No medal for India in their final event of the day as Arvind finshes sixth in the men’s shot put F35 final with a season-best throw of 13.01m in his third attempt.

Uzbekistan’s Khusniddin Norbekov wins gold with a throw measuring 16.82m that is a new Paralympic record. Argentina’s Hernan Emanuel Urra wins silver with a throw of 16.11m that’s a South American record, while Iran’s Seyed Aliasghar Javanmardi winning bronze with a best throw of 15.84m.

One more attempt is left for Arvind but he is still in 6th position with a best of 13.01.

Four attempts are now done for Arvind and he is 6th with a best of 13.01. Irran’s Aliasghar is currently in the last medal position with a throw of 15.84.

12.34 throw on second attempt for Arvind but he’s way off the mark for a medal position.

Arvind manages an 11.79m throw in his first attempt. He is 6th currently and the last medal position is with China’s Fu Xinhan (15.64).

Action has begun in the shot put F35 final. The Indian is third in the list for throwing.

Ashok ends at 6th with best lift of 199 while China, Great Britain and Algeria win gold, silver and bronze respectively.

Ashok fails to lift 206 in his third attempt and his is now out of medal contention in the Para Powerlifting: Men’s up to 65 kg.

With a timing of 12.31, India’s Simran comes fourth in the four-racer field in the Women’s 100m T12 final. T12 is a category for athletes with visual impairment. Cuba’s Omara takes gold with a time of 11.81.

India’s Simran is about to race. This is her personal best and season best and also for the others in the field. Simran isn’t the favourite here to win a medal, but let her surprise us.

Ashok is now down to the sixth spot with the highest lift of 199. China’s Yi Zou is leading with 210kg, Mark Swan of Great Britain is second (208) and Thomas Kure of Nigeria is third (205).

Ashok successfully lifts 199 in his second attempt and is back to the third spot but a few others are still to take their turns.

Ashok is now down to the fourth spot with Hocine in the bronze medal position with a lift of 197. Ashok is scheduled to lift 199 in his second attempt but that won’t be enough to get into medal positions.

Ashok has been pushed to the second spot by Hocine Bettir of Alegria who successfully lifts 197 in his first attempt.

Ashok is at the top right now with a successful lift of 196.

Ashok is in the final. And the final is underway with Egypt’s Sherif lifting 193already.

It took just one move by Kapil Parmar to create history by beating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliviera by Ippon (10-0). He is first Indian to win judo medal at Paralympics.

That was so close. India’s Pooja and Harvinder Singh miss out on a bronze medal in archery after a 17-19 shoot-off defeat to Slovenia’s Dejan Fabcic and Ziva Lavrinc.

Here’s how the scoring panned out:

In the shoot-off, Harvinder starts with an 8.

Slovenia’s Dejan replies with a 9*.

Pooja gets 9.

Ziva in the last shot hits 10 and Slovenia win the bronze medal with a 19-17 score in the shoot-off.

Set 4: Deja starts poorly with 7 and Ziva shoots 9. Slovenia scores 16 so far.

Harvinder shoots 9 and Pooja gets 7. it’s 16-all currently.

In 2nd try, Dejan gets a big 10 followed by Ziva’s 8. Slovenia’s total is now 34.

Pooja replies with 5. That’s so bad. Harvinder gets 8 and India lose 29-34. The match is tied 4-4.

India are 14th now in the medal tally with 25 medals. Kapil Parmar in judo won the 25th and first of the day. China are at the top with almost 150 medals!

Paramar Kapil wins a bronze in men’s 60kg J1 Judo competition after beating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliviera 10-0. This is India’s 25th medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024.

What a match but the Italians were well ready for it. Winning the match 6-2 with Elisabetta hitting a 10 on the last try and avoiding a shoot-off. Indians lose 2-6 and now move to the bronze medal match.

Set 4. India 2-4 Italy.

On 2nd try, Pooja gets 10. This is good.

Harvinder smashes 10 as well. India total 37.

Stefano shoots 10. Elisabetta shoots 10 too. Italy win 38-37. Italy win the match 6-2. India move to bronze medal match.
