Pakistan’s Abdur Rehman is facing a two-year ban after failing a dope test in England. The left-arm spinner, who represents Somerset in County cricket, is not part of Pakistan’s World T20 squad.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in this regard, a local Urdu Pakistani daily Express, reported.
Rahman, who is already 32, will find it difficult to return to international cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) says that the PCB has to accept the ban.
Abdur Rehman is the 17th player worldwide and 3rd from Pakistan to have failed the dope test. Earlier, Mohammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar had also tested positive.
The left-arm spinner has been left out of the Twenty20 squad in the ongoing World Cup, but is an important member of Pakistan’s Test and one-day squads. In 17 Tests, he has taken 81 wickets and in 25 ODIs, he claimed 21 wickets.
