United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order creating a task force that will handle security matters related to the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Trump will head the task force while Vice President JD Vance will be his deputy.
The 2028 LA Olympics task force also includes several high-profile members from Trump’s cabinet and senior administration officials like Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
The 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles when Trump will be in the Oval Office. It will also be the first Olympics in the US since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“The LA Olympics is shaping up to be a wonderful moment for America. It’s going to be incredible. It’s so exciting,” Trump said after signing the executive order at the White House.
What will the 2028 Olympics task force do?
As per Reuters, the LA 2028 task force will handle security and other issues related to the 2028 Summer Olympic Games. The task force will serve as the main coordinator between federal, state, and local governments on matters related to security and transportation.
It will also “streamline visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media,” a US government official told Reuters.
With the FIFA World Cup taking place partially in the US in 2026 and the Olympics in 2028, Trump sees it as an opportunity to boost his global image and deliver some of the most memorable international events.

Earlier, Trump created a similar task force for the football World Cup, which will also be hosted in Canada and Mexico. Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is a big Trump supporter, has been named director of the group.
The World Cup and Olympics are expected to draw a large number of foreign visitors to the US, besides a big number of athletes. Trump’s recent efforts to curb illegal immigration and travel from some countries could prove a big problem in such a case, which is why it’s felt that a task force would help.
