Neeraj Chopra stood on the Olympic podium for the second time in his career on Friday, a day after winning silver in the Paris Olympics men’s javelin final.
Chopra added a silver to a historic gold in the Tokyo Olympics with a season-best throw of 89.45m in his second and only legal attempt on Thursday.

The javelin star from Haryana had earlier breezed into the final in just one attempt measuring 89.32m, and managed to secure silver despite not being a hundred per cent fit , which he would reveal later.
Chopra could have also walked away with a second consecutive Olympic gold had it not been for a record throw from Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem measuring 92.97m in his second attempt.
As if to highlight the fact that his monster throw was no fluke, he breached the 90-metre mark once again in his final attempt.

Nadeem thus won Pakistan their first gold medal at the Olympics since the men’s hockey team won their third gold in Los Angeles 1984, he also became the first Pakistani to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
Grenada’s Anderson Peters won bronze with a best effort of 88.54m while Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch finished fourth with a best effort of 88.50m.
It was the first time in the history of the Olympics that the men’s javelin event did not have a competitor from Europe standing on the podium.

Chopra’s silver was India’s fifth medal at the Paris Olympics, with the country having won bronze in men’s hockey along with three medals of the same colour in shooting — two of them won by Manu Bhaker.
