India, meanwhile, will face Germany in the men’s hockey semi-final on Tuesday, 6 August at 10.30 pm. The Germans kept their campaign alive with a 3-2 victory over Argentina.

Netherlands and Spain lock horns in the other semi-final after beating Australia and Belgium respectively.

Noah Lyles’ triumph in the men’s 100-metre final gives the United States its 19th gold medal, exactly the number China have won so far.

The Americans, however, have won 26 more medals than the Chinese on the overall count and thus take the top spot.

Noah Lyles has finally done it! The American pips Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson to gold by 0.004s after both finish on 9.79s to finally add the men’s 100m gold to his multiple World Championships golds!

It’s USA-Jamaica-USA on the podium with Thompson, who initially thought he won the title, collecting silver and Fred Kerley winning bronze!

Right then, the Stade de France goes dark, with the showpiece men’s 100-metre final getting underway now!

Will Noah Lyles finally add an Olympic crown to his collection? Will a Jamaican win the title for the first time since Usain Bolt in Rio 2016? Or will Marcell Jacobs become the first since the legendary Bolt to successfully defend the men’s 100m title?

Meanwhile in the second semi-final, defending champion Marcell Jacobs finishes third — a spot that doesn’t guarantee automatic qualification. South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo occupy the top two spots. Will have to wait for Semi-Final 3 to find out whether Jacobs goes through or not.

Jamaica’s Oblique Seville finishes ahead of USA’s Noah Lyles in Semi-final 1 of the men’s 100-metre event. Lyles, a six-time World Championships gold medallist, will be aiming to win his first Olympic gold medal after collecting bronze in Tokyo 2020.

Meanwhile in men’s hockey, Tokyo 2020 champions Belgium and runners-up Australia have been knocked out of the Paris Games! Belgium suffered a shock 2-3 loss at the hands of Spain after topping Pool B while Netherlands knocked Australia with a 2-0 win in a heated clash.

One more quarter-final to go, with Germany set to face Argentina, the winner then facing India in the semi-finals.

Asian championships silver medallist Nisha Dahiya will be the first Indian wrestler in action in the Paris Olympics on Monday, facing Ukraine’s Tetiana Sova, seeded fifth, in the women’s 68kg freestyle Round of 16.

Sova has won four medals at the European Championships, including the 65kg title in 2022.

If Dahiya wins, she could face either Moldova’s Irina Ringaci, seeded fourth, or Pak Sol Gum North Korea in the quarter-finals.

Another big day coming up tomorrow for the Indian contingent, with Lakshya Sen set to fight for bronze against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia.

Hockey India on Sunday released a statement that the sporting body had officially raised concerns on the “quality of umpiring and decision-making”, with regards to the men’s team’s quarter-final against Great Britain. “Inconsistent video umpire reviews, particularly regarding the red card decision for an Indian player, which has eroded trust in the video review system,” reads one of the major points in the statement.

During the quarter-final that India won, Amit Rohidas was given a red card after he appeared to lift his hockey stick onto the face of Will Calnan. That gesture was declared as “dangerous play” by the officials. As a result, India were down to 10 men for more than 40 minutes.

Maheshwari Chauhan had been in contention to qualify for the women’s skeet final but a 22 in the sixth and final series has hurt her chances and seen her drop out of the top-six. She musters a final total of 118 points.

Raiza Dhillon, further down the list in 23rd, after 113 points.

Viktor Axelsen: “He (Lakshya Sen) was playing so well. In four years, he would be a gold medal contender. I relaxed at the right time.”

Reminder: Lakshya Sen can still win a bronze medal as he will play seventh seeded Malaysian Lee Zii Jia, who lost to Kunlavut Viditsarn in the other semi-final.
