New Zealand scraped past Scotland to register their second consecutive victory in the World Cup at University Oval, Dunedin. The hosts stuttered but eventually crossed the finish line in the end trying to play too many shots in order to chase down 143 as soon as possible.
Trent Boult and Tim Southee provided the perfect start to the Kiwis as they swung the ball prodigiously to reduce Scotland to 12/4 after opting to bowl. Matt Machan (56) and Richie Berrington (50) then steadied the ship for Scotland with fifties, adding 97 runs for the fifth wicket. But Machan’s dismisal sparked a collapse and Scotland could muster just 142. There were four golden ducks in their innings and five ducks in all, the most in an ODI innings for them.
Chasing the target, New Zealand lost wickets at regular intervals but kept the scoreboard ticking and thanks to Kane Williamson (38) and Grant Elliott (29), they scraped past the finish line. As always the Social Media was abuzz and there were some hilarious jokes cracked on the Scotland collapse. We present you some of the funny tweets from the match.
It's a great day for any Sri Lankan journalist when you can cover a match featuring a Machan. #NZvSCO #CWC15

Scotland cross the lowest-ever score ignominy. These 38 runs should count double against this attack.
