Indian boxer Nupur Sheoran won the gold medal in the 80+kg category at the 2025 World Boxing Cup Finals, which concluded in Greater Noida on Thursday, November 20. She defeated Uzbek boxer Sotimboeva Oltinoy by a 3-2 split decision in the finals at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.
She sent a strong message after her victory to people who had been trolling her online. The 27-year-old said she had been badly targeted on social media after she won silver in her previous tournament in Liverpool. A video had gone viral where she said that she would “turn her silver into gold,” and many people called her overconfident.
Nupur responds to trolls
After winning the gold at the World Boxing Cup finals, Nupur talked about the trolling and admitted it deeply affected her mental health. The Haryana-born boxer said that she normally doesn’t use social media much, but when she found out about the trolling, it disturbed her a lot.
“I really needed this gold because I hadn’t slept for the past month. I was trolled over a video in which I had said that I had just received a silver medal and I would turn it into gold. I was called overconfident by my own countrymen. I want to tell everyone that until we think about where we need to reach, we won’t be able to get there. So, please stop trolling people for such small things,” Nupur told reporters.
“Yes, it definitely affected my mental health. I don’t use social media much, but when I found out that I was being trolled for saying this, I didn’t like it at all," she added.
