Number Cruncher: All the stats from Germany's 1-0 win over France

Germany reached the semifinals for a fourth straight World Cup by beating France 1-0 Friday in a cagey match settled by a first-half header from Mats Hummels. Here are the top stats from the match: - Germany will make its 12th World Cup semifinal appearance; no other country has more than 7 (BRA, ITA). It is also the first team ever to reach four straight World Cup semifinals. They have also played seven finals and won three. - Since their final goal against the Swiss, France scored twice in 282 minutes and one of those was an own goal. No wonder they couldn’t break Germany’s resistance. [caption id=“attachment_1603873” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![AFP](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Hummels-Boateng-AFP.jpg) France also went behind at half-time in a match for the first time since September 2013. AFP[/caption] - France also went behind at half-time in a match for the first time since September 2013 (vs Belarus). - Hummels’ goal ended the streak of six straight scoreless 1st halves at this World Cup — it was the 2nd-longest such streak in World Cup history. Before Hummels 12th minute goal, the last seven goals at the 2014 WC had been scored in extra time. - Mats Hummels has scored two goals from two shots in World Cup 2014. He has now scored three goals in his last eight appearances for Germany, after scoring none in his previous 15 games. - Four of the last five goals conceded by France have been from set-pieces. - Didier Deschamps has been beaten only once in 11 World Cup games as player/manager (W8 D2 L1). - This was Germany’s 16th 1-0 win in WC history. The most common score for any team. Next is a 1-1 draw for Italy. - Miroslav Klose overtook Maradona, Seeler, Zmuda with his 22nd WC match. Only Matthaus (25) and Maldini (23) ahead of him. He may play a record fourth semifinal, but he has never scored beyond a quarterfinal. - Last time Germany lost a World Cup Cup match after taking lead in 12th minute was vs England in the 1966 World Cup final (4-2). - The last five times France made it past the 1st Round of the World Cup, they reached the semi-finals (58,82,86,98,06). Not this time… - France 0-1 Germany FT: Shots(OT) 13(5) - 9(3), Possession 49% - 51%. - Mesut Ozil had only 37 touches in his time on the pitch against France. Only Miroslav Klose managed fewer touches of players who started. - Karim Benzema had five shots in the first half but made only one pass. - Germany are unbeaten in 16 games (all comps), longer than any other side still involved at the World Cup (W11 D5).
