Neeraj Chopra qualified for the World Athletics Championships 2025 men’s javelin final with his very first throw at the National Stadium in Tokyo on Wednesday. The defending champion Neeraj, who won the World Athletics Championships gold in Budapest 2023, qualified for the final with his first throw of 84.85m. The automatic qualification mark is 84.50m.
By throwing 84.85m on the first throw of the Group A qualification, Neeraj Chopra qualified directly and will not be needed to take any more throws.
So far, Neeraj is the only athlete to have directly qualified from Group A and that also on his first attempt. Group A includes world No 1 Julian Weber and other top javelin athletes like Keshorn Walcott and Jakub Vadlejch.
India’s Sachin Yadav, who is also part of Group A, registered a throw of 80.16 on his first attempt.
12 athletes will qualify for the final from across the two groups. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem is part of Group B and will be competing later today.
