Neeraj Chopra etched his name into the elite 90-metre club in a spectacular moment at the Doha Diamond League 2025 on Friday. Chopra created history in the third round when he registered a gigantic 90.23m throw, leaving everyone including fans and commentators in awe.

He started the competition with a bang by throwing the javelin to 88.44m in the first round and taking the world lead. Chopra missed out in the second round but landed well beyond the 90-metre mark in his third attempt. Right after the third throw, Chopra raised both his hands in celebration showing he knew he had just achieved something special.
When the official measurement was confirmed and the numbers were displayed on the big screen, the Indian star embraced fellow competitors, sharing the moment with Germany’s Julian Weber and compatriot Kishore Jena, who finished 8th out of 11 athletes in the final standings. “I am very happy to have breached the 90m mark but it’s a bitter-sweet experience. My coach Jan Zelezny said today is the day when I can throw 90m. The wind helps and weather is little warm and that helps. I also told Julian that we can throw 90m. I am also happy for him (Julian),” Chopra said after the event.
“I believe I can throw farther than this in the coming events. We will work on some aspects and will throw 90m plus again this season,” he added.
Chopra remained at the top for most of the event but was eventually stunned by Weber, who threw 91.06m in the final round to snatch the victory and world lead from the two-time Olympic medalist. Chopra registered 88.20m in the sixth round. Grenada’s Anderson Peters finished third with a throw of 85.64m, which he secured in his first attempt.
