As if regular surfing was not hard enough — and Australian stuntman has now done it on a motorbike.
Robbie Maddison tried the stunt in Teahupoo in Tahiti and a video shows how incredible his feat is. Maddison’s bike has a combination of propeller tyres and skis which he designed himself to ride on water.
“It was a stupid vision at the time, but I kept toying with it, playing with designs and concepts, and eventually it became a reality,” Maddison, who also doubled for Daniel Craig in the James Bond movie Skyfall, is quoted as saying by ITV .
The video, which starts with Maddison riding over blue waters, leaving kayakers surprised, ends with the big stunt — and while it may seem easy with all the slow motion effect and music, the 34-year-old says that he thought he was going to die when he saw the size of the wave.
“I don’t think the photos or video show how physical it was. You can’t see that when the wave broke right behind me, I honestly thought that might be the end of my life. I’ve never felt like I was in the wrong place at the wrong time more than I did right there,” he said.
Maddison is fondly called “Australian Evel Knievel” by his fans — and you can check out his insane stunt in the video below. Oh, he’s also done a leap up and down on his bike at the Arc de Triomphe at the Paris Las Vegas resort.
