The members backed Srinivasan and Sundar Raman and said that the charges against Srinivasan were baseless. The Annual General Meeting for the BCCI has now been postponed to 17 December. BCCI also said that Sundar Raman should be permitted to appear before Supreme Court — and that Meiyappan and Kundra will have to fight their own case. End of updates for 17 November 15.30 pm: Srinivasan did not scuttle probe but has questions to answer According to Justice Mudgal report, Srinivasan did not interfere in their investigation. The two questions that Srinivasan has to answer are how much he knew about the betting that took place and what he did about it. The Mudgal Committee explicitly notes that Srinivasan and five other BCCI officials knew that at least one player was betting but did nothing to stop it. Amit Verma: The BCCI covered-up that betting was going on and the report states that clearly. 15.20 pm: Srinivasan still to read Mudgal Committee report Suspended BCCI president N Srinivasan told NDTV he will comment only after he has read the report and that he will react only after the Supreme Court passes its judgement. 15.10 pm: Srinivasan not entirely in the clear While there has been no evidence found linking Srinivasan to fixing or betting personally, it appears at the next hearing the Court will question him, and the BCCI, about not stopping others from betting. 2:50 pm: BCCI promises action against Meiyappan, Kundra The BCCI is for now promising strong action against all those guilty. This after the Mudgal panel report suggested that IPL COO Sundar Raman was in contact with a bookie. “In the case of Meiyappan and Raj Kundra action will be taken against them,” Shivlal Yadav, working president of the BCCI, said. He however, refused to speculate on what action would be taken against the teams they were involved in, he said. “If there is evidence against Mr Sundar Raman spoke to a bookie then action will be taken. The BCCI will not spare anybody,” he said. Yadav denied that there was any pressure to sack Raman as IPL COO, and said concerns had been raised over him continuing at the post. 2:45 pm: Relieved by report’s findings, says N Srinivasan N Srinivasan has told CNN-IBN that he was relieved by the report’s findings but would wait to read the report before offering a reaction to it. 2:40 pm: Meiyappan not guilty of match fixing, notes Mudgal report The Mudgal report has noted that Gurunath Meiyappan was ’no cricket enthusiast’ and was a crucial part of the Chennai Super Kings team. It also notes that Meiyappan was meeting with an individual in his hotel room but does not reveal their names. But the committee said that there was no material evidence to show he was involved in betting, reports CNN-IBN. Meiyappan was arrested by the Mumbai Police over his alleged involvement in the betting racket and was in jail while the probe was on. However, the report concluded that there was no evidence that he had indulged in match fixing. “There is no material to show that the individual was involved in match fixing,” CNN-IBN’s Ashok Bagriya reports. 2:30 pm: Mudgal report gives clean chit to BCCI chief N Srinivasan, questions raised over Raj Kundra The Mudgal report has reportedly given a clean chit to BCCI chief N Srinivasan in connection with the IPL match fixing scandal and has said that he wasn’t involved in it or illegal betting. The report notes that Srinivasan may have known that some players were involved in betting but he didn’t take any action on it. However, the report has said that Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra was in touch with bookies and was placing bets. Kundra, incidentally wasn’t arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with the betting scandal that saw Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan being arrested. It also noted that the probe by the Rajasthan Police against Kundra had been abruptly stopped. Manohar alleged that BCCI lawyers were under instruction to do things as it suits Srinivasan. He also said that the board postponed the Annual General Meeting hoping that Srinivasan would come out of the mess but as per the BCCI constitution a AGM cannot be postponed. 4.45 pm: Lalit Modi praises SC, thanks Justice Mudgal for saving cricket First IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, who does not share a very cordial relationship with ICC chief N Srinivasan, lauded the Supreme Court for taking on money and mafia power engulfing Indian cricket. He said: “Today is a day of momentous proportion. Finally the #money power and #mafia power are no match to honorable Supreme Court. Truth prevails.” In his second tweet, Modi said, “Thank you #justice #mudgal - you are truly THE Savior for #cricket - now time to #cleanse #mafia #stranglehold on #icc #bcci #ecb #ca.” The former IPL chief also wanted the perpetrators to be behind bars. https://twitter.com/LalitKModi/status/533206954991423489 4.08 pm: BCCI elections can always be postponed, says Rajiv Shukla In the light of Supreme Court revealing names of players in the IPL betting scam, IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla said that BCCI elections could be held later. “Team tours are on and the BCCI elections can always be postponed,” Shukla told Times Now. It has placed a ban on the players names coming out. 14.50 IST: Court wants to name officials and administrators, not players The Supreme Court revealed the names of two Rajasthan Royals players by accident. They wanted to name officials and administrators, not players. The court asked Harish Salve, the lawyer for the petitioner, to clarify who is a player and who is not. 14.45 IST: BCCI elections postponed The court is going to hear the case again on 24th November. The BCCI has therefore been forced to cancel its AGM scheduled for 20 November at which Srinivasan was going to stand for re-election. What this means for Srinivasan we don’t yet. How the BCCI will function for the next few months when the terms of all its office-bearers have ended is another question that needs to be answered. 14.40 IST: Sundar Raman also investigated NDTV reports that Sundar Raman is another person who was investigated by the Mudgal Commmittee. In Mudgal committee’s final report submitted on 3 November, ICC Chairman N Srinivasan and India captain MS Dhoni have been named. Will Srinivasan be allowed to head BCCI in the future if his son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, is found to be involved in IPL-6 betting and spot-fixing scandal? The court is likely to decide that today. Justice Mudgal committee, which was conducting probe against Srinivasan and 12 prominent players in the scandal, had on 29 August filed its interim report in a sealed cover before the Supreme Court. The apex court had on 16 May given the task to conduct probe against 69-year-old Srinivasan and the players. It had rejected BCCI’s proposal to conduct the probe through its own panel.
