Mohit Sharma becomes second Indian to get man of the match on ODI debut

Mohit Sharma’s debut may not have broken a lot of records, but the one it did is quite impressive — he becomes only the second Indian cricketer to be adjudged man of the match on ODI debut. Sandeep Patil was the first one, and he did it in 1980 against more illustrious opponents Australia in Melbourne. While Sharma finished with figures of 2/26, Patil scored 64 on his debut and finished with bowling figures of 1/34. [caption id=“attachment_1004759” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![AP](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/MohitSharma-ODI-AP.jpg) While Sharma finished with figures of 2/26, Patil scored 64 on his debut and finished with bowling figures of 1/34. AP[/caption] India had already clinched the series 3-0, and it was expected that Sharma would be picked along with a couple other players. Cheteshwar Pujara was the other debutant but he managed to score only 13 before being dismissed. A niggle to Vinay Kumar however, paved the way for Sharma to come into the side. His opening spell was brilliant, and he made the ball move both ways — which was evident from his first delivery itself. And after bagging the wicket of Sikandar Raza, confidence only grew. He finished his spell with a wicket, giving way just 13 runs. He came back later and got Malcolm Waller’s wicket in his third spell. Sharma’s rise has been pretty quick. He’s just 24-years-old and has taken 44 wickets in 11 first class matches at an average of 24.65. He also had an impressive campaign with Chennai Super Kings in IPL-6.
