Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna has changed rules on who can meet the F1 legend, making it even harder to visit the seven-time world champion. The decision comes as the family’s mistrust has risen in the wake of recent events threatening the privacy of the racing legend.
Schumacher suffered a horrific head injury while skiing in the French Alps in December 2013 and has not been seen in public since. He was placed in a medically induced coma for several months after the accident and later shifted to his family home in Lake Geneva. The racing legend’s family has continued to protect his privacy since then.
The recent developments have only added to the family’s insecurities and the ‘inner circle’ of Schumacher has now been reduced to only nine people.
Schumacher’s inner circle
As the family continues to protect Schumacher’s privacy, German outlet BILD reported that only nine people can visit the F1 maestro.
Corinna and their two children, Mick and Gina-Maria, are in the inner circle alongside Sabine Kehm, a trusted former manager of Schumacher. Former F1 boss Jean Todt who is one of Schumacher’s closest friends and his former Benetton and Ferrari technical director Boss Brawn are also in the circle.
Former F1 drivers Gerhard Berger, Luca Badoer and Felipe Massa have visited Schumacher and are reported to be among the members of the private circle.
Reason behind Corrina’s new stance
Last year, the Schumacher family became victim to an extortion bid where three men including the F1 legend’s ex-bodyguard Markus Fritsche threatened to leak his health details. Corrina had described Frische’s actions as “ultimate betrayal” and this incident played a key role in her toughened stance.
“The breach of trust has led to the family maintaining a greater distance from the people who work for them, to being more cautious,” Kehm, the former manager of Schumacher who is part of the inner circle, told BILD.
“I personally find it extremely perfidious that they want to exploit the suffering like this, so it’s clear why the family is taking a tougher stance towards their loved ones.
