MCA stunned as Ghavri, Sandhu, others resign from posts

In a shocking incident, four former cricketers tendered their resignations from the Mumbai Cricket Association on Monday, allegedly miffed over an incident in the board’s Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) meeting. Board members Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Nilesh Kulkarni and Karsan Ghavri resigned from the committee while Milind Rege stepped down as a selector, reports DNA. Reuters[/caption] The report quoted an MCA official as saying that the resignations were not due to problems with the association. “An incident happened in the last CIC meeting and the cricketers are really hurt. Hence they decided to give up their posts,” said a senior official. The DNA report quoted Sandhu as saying: “CIC is there to improve cricket in Mumbai. The suggestion given by Test cricketers are not acceptable or appreciated by the committee. Nor are efforts made to implement the suggestions. In such a scenario, I find it difficult to continue." Nilesh Kulkarni too agreed with Sandhu. The report said Rege, who was the chairman of the selection committee last year, was not happy at being ignored for the post of the chairman which was given to Abey Kuruvilla, who is junior to him.
