Mary Kom to get Rs 40 lakh from NEC

New Delhi: London Olympics bronze medalist woman boxer MC Mary Kom will be awarded Rs 40 lakh by the North Eastern Council. This was announced by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Paban Singh Ghatowar, who is also chairman of NEC, in New Delhi today.[caption id=“attachment_416831” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/MaryKom-medal-pti1.jpg "MaryKom-medal-pti") Mary Kom. PTI[/caption] To acknowledge the hard work put in by the achievers of the London Olympics and also extend a congratulatory note to Mary Kom for winning the bronze medal, the Minister has announced Rs 40 lakh cash award, an official statement said.

As a part of its never ending endeavor of supporting and acknowledging the excellent sport persons from the North Eastern Region, the NEC had constituted NEC Chairman’s Sport Award for Excellence wherein achievers of the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and National Games were felicitated and given cash awards. Ghatowar will felicitate Mary at a programme to be held on 16 September in Imphal. PTI
